Saturna Island is a vibrant community that welcomes residents and visitors seeking a peaceful yet active summer experience. We are seeking an enthusiastic and organized Information Assistant to promote island events, activities, and natural attractions, while supporting community well-being. This position provides a meaningful opportunity for youth to gain hands-on experience in community outreach, digital communication, and environmentally responsible tourism practices aligned with both local and national priorities.

Key Responsibilities
Promote Island Events & Activities

• Distribute brochures, posters, and digital communications at key island locations to increase community awareness and participation.
• Coordinate with event organizers, small businesses, and local partners to ensure accurate information is available to the public.
• Support visibility of programs aligned with food security, seniors, youth, and environmental protection where applicable at public events.
Visitor Assistance
- Provide visitors with up-to-date information about island attractions, trails, beaches, activities, accommodations, and local services.
• Offer tailored recommendations based on visitor interests, including outdoor activities, cultural experiences, local shops, and environmentally respectful recreation.
• Assist with directions, travel logistics, and general inquiries to ensure positive experiences for all ages, including seniors and families.
• Share information that encourages sustainable practices and stewardship of sensitive ecosystems.
Digital & Technology-Supported Tasks
- Use digital tools to maintain and update information materials, community postings, and online event listings.
• Support basic data entry, tracking of visitor questions, and organization of information resources, providing exposure to technology use in workplace settings.
• Assist in preparing simple digital content (such as updates, posts, or online listings), offering opportunities to build foundational digital skills.
• Participate in introductory tasks that strengthen technological awareness—such as organizing datasets, supporting simple automated workflows, or using AI-assisted tools for organizing information—helping youth understand practical, entry-level applications of digital and AI-supported processes.
Community Engagement
- Build positive relationships with local businesses, event organizers, volunteers, and residents to maintain accurate knowledge of island happenings.
• Share local updates through appropriate communication channels to enhance community awareness and participation.
• Represent the island at community events, promoting a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for children, youth, adults, and seniors.
• Support occasional outreach initiatives connected to environmental protection, community well-being, or local volunteer activity.
