Community Development Associate
The Southern Gulf Islands Community Resource Centre is hiring a Community Development Associate to support summer programs that strengthen local food security, engage youth and volunteers, and promote environmental protection across the islands. This role offers hands-on experience in community development, sustainability initiatives, outreach, and nonprofit operations.
Key Responsibilities
Food Security & Local Food System Support
- Coordinate and co-host the Co-op Sales Table at the Saturday Farmers Market.
• Liaise with market and community hall managers to ensure smooth operations.
• Promote local food initiatives through social media, photos, and outreach materials.
• Build relationships with local growers and support community workshops (growing, preserving, seed saving).
• Document local farms and gardens for marketing and engagement.
Youth Engagement & Community Outreach
- Support outreach to youth, volunteers, growers, and community partners.
• Create digital posters, update websites, and share program information online.
• Provide general information to the public about programs and opportunities.
• Help foster strong relationships with nonprofits, businesses, and community groups.
Environmental Protection & Sustainability Support
- Assist with projects promoting sustainable, climate-aware community practices.
• Research best practices in environmental stewardship and sustainable agriculture.
• Contribute to educational materials and awareness campaigns.
Data Collection & Reporting
- Track and report Co-op Sales Table sales and participation data.
• Collect and organize program data for reporting to staff, funders, and partners.
• Support program evaluation by identifying key outcomes and improvements.
General Program & Administrative Support
- Assist with planning, logistics, and delivery of workshops and community events.
• Prepare materials, maintain records, and support program communications.
• Provide administrative assistance to program managers as needed.
• Contribute ideas and support new program initiatives and special projects.
This is a 8 week position starting at the begining of July to the end of August. Wage is $22 per hour and 35 hours per week.
This position is partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs 2026. Eligible participants must be:
- between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
