Job Summary: In this role, you will play a pivotal part in promoting Pender Island as a tourist
destination, providing exceptional support at the Visitor Information Centre and serving as an
enthusiastic ambassador of the island. You’ll assist visitors, deliver information about local
businesses and attractions, and contribute to enhancing their overall on-island experience.
Duties:
• Island Ambassador: Serve as a positive representative of the island, engaging with
visitors to create memorable experiences and fostering a welcoming atmosphere. Attend
island events, such as the weekly farmers market, Fall Fair and festivals.
• Visitor Assistance: Provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance to visitors by offering
information about local attractions, events, accommodations, dining options, activities
and local businesses.
• Information Centre Operations: Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the
Visitor Information Centre and kiosk, including maintaining cleanliness, organizing
informational materials, and ensuring a welcoming environment for guests.
• Promotional Support: Aid in the development and dissemination of promotional
materials, including brochures, maps, itineraries, event calendars and online content to
highlight the island’s offerings and attractions.
• Event Support: Assist in organizing and promoting local events, including coordinating
logistics, engaging with vendors, and supporting event attendees.
• Digital Support: Maintain the online events calendar, work with island businesses and
organizations to ensure their online profiles are up-to-date, and prepare social media
content to highlight things to do, interesting features, upcoming events and key
messages.
• Customer Service: Deliver exceptional customer service, addressing inquiries in
person, via phone or through email promptly and professionally.
• Data Collection: Assist in collecting visitor data and feedback to aid in the improvement
of services and to generate reports for analysis.
Qualifications:
• Enrolled in or recently completed a degree/diploma program in tourism, hospitality,
marketing, or a related field. High school students with an interest in tourism, marketing
and business will also be considered.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong customer service orientation with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
• Familiarity with the island’s attractions, geography and tourism offerings is a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, good photography skills and experience with social media
platforms.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Access to a vehicle is a plus.
Duration & Hours: This is a seasonal position for the summer months, with 30 hours per week.
Flexibility in working weekends during peak tourist periods will be required.

• Salary range: $18 to $20 per hour

This position is partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs 2025. Eligible participants must be:
- between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
