The Pender Island Ambassador supports the delivery of high‑quality visitor services and contributes to the SGI Community Resource Centre’s mandate of strengthening community engagement, economic development, and accessible information across the Southern Gulf Islands. This position plays a key role in representing Pender Island to visitors, coordinating information services, supporting local events, and contributing to the promotion of sustainable and responsible tourism. In alignment with the Canada Summer Jobs AI National Priority, the role incorporates digital literacy skill‑building and the responsible use of AI‑supported tools to enhance communications, data management, and public information services.
Key Responsibilities
Visitor Services and Community Representation
- Serve as a professional and knowledgeable representative of Pender Island and the SGICRC.
- Provide accurate information regarding local attractions, services, transportation, accommodations, dining, and recreational opportunities.
- Support visitor needs with courtesy and professionalism, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Attend community events, such as markets, fairs, and festivals, to promote island resources and share visitor information.
Information Centre Operations
- Assist with day‑to‑day operations of the Visitor Information Centre and seasonal kiosks.
- Maintain organized, up‑to‑date brochures, maps, and community information materials.
- Ensure the physical space remains clean, functional, and prepared to receive the public.
Digital Communications and AI‑Assisted Support
- Maintain and update the online community events calendar and business listings.
- Assist in developing communication materials, online content, and promotional resources using digital tools, including AI‑supported platforms where appropriate.
- Produce professional digital content, such as photographs, short written updates, or event summaries.
- Support the enhancement of digital accuracy and accessibility for residents and visitors.
Marketing and Promotional Activities
- Contribute to the creation and distribution of promotional materials such as brochures, itineraries, seasonal guides, and social media content.
- Assist in highlighting local businesses, cultural assets, natural attractions, and community events in alignment with SGICRC strategic priorities.
Event Coordination Support
- Assist with planning and logistics for SGI community events.
- Engage with vendors, volunteers, and attendees to ensure smooth event delivery.
- Provide on‑site support, information distribution, and visitor engagement.
Data Collection and Reporting
- Collect and record visitor data, inquiries, and feedback.
- Assist in preparing reports summarizing visitor activity and identifying emerging trends or service needs.
- Contribute to improving data practices using digital and AI‑enhanced tools where appropriate.
Qualifications Required
- Enrolled in or recently completed studies in tourism, hospitality, marketing, communications, digital media, geography, business, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated customer service experience or aptitude.
- Competence with Microsoft Office and comfort with digital communication platforms.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Eligibility under the Canada Summer Jobs program.
Preferred Assets
- Familiarity with Pender Island and the Southern Gulf Islands, including local attractions, community organizations, and tourism services.
- Experience with digital content creation, photography, or social media management.
- Interest in developing skills in AI‑supported tools for communication and information management.
- Experience working in a public‑facing or community service environment.
Working Conditions
- The position requires weekend availability and participation in community events.
- Work may include indoor administrative tasks and outdoor event‑based activities.
- Training and supervision will be provided by SGICRC staff.

• Salary range: $22 per hour
This position is for 9 weeks at 35 hours a week. Anticipated Start Date would be the end of June to the end of August

This position is partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs 2026. Eligible participants must be:
- between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
