Volunteer Coordinator

Position Summary:
The Volunteer Coordinator helps strengthen the Neighbourhood House’s volunteer network across the islands by supporting recruitment, onboarding, training, recognition, and ongoing communication. This role contributes directly to community well-being by ensuring volunteer-supported programs—such as food initiatives, youth and senior services, and environmentally oriented activities—are well staffed and well organized. The position also includes working with digital tools and developing comfort with data systems.
Key Duties:
- Support the development of a structured volunteer program and involvement framework.
- Implement recruitment and engagement strategies.
- Prepare outreach materials and assist with community awareness efforts.
- Recruit, interview, onboard, and maintain communication with volunteers.
- Use digital tools such as the Better Impact database to organize records and track participation.
- Keep volunteer files, documentation, and program data well organized.
- Lead or support community engagement activities that raise awareness of volunteer opportunities.
- Explore micro-volunteering and virtual volunteer options to expand accessibility.
- Draft guidelines, procedures, and best practices related to volunteer involvement.
- Coordinate volunteer appreciation activities and recognition events.
- Participate in digital tasks, including basic data preparation or improvements to workflow processes.
- Support volunteer involvement in programs related to food access, youth programming, seniors’ activities, and environmental education.
Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good organizational abilities and comfort learning new digital platforms.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Creativity and interest in community engagement.
- Experience with volunteer coordination is an asset but not required.
This position pays $22 per hour for 9 weeks at 30 hours a week.
This position is partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs 2026. Eligible participants must be:
- between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
