Position Overview:
The SGI Community Resource Centre is seeking a dedicated and proactive Community
Development Associate (CDA) to assist with a range of dynamic programs during the summer.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on
experience in the nonprofit sector, particularly in program management, community outreach,
sustainability initiatives, and housing advocacy. The CDA will support the execution,
coordination, and evaluation of key programs, including Housing NOW, the Nonprofit Support
Program, the Food Resilience Alliance, Sustainable Tourism, and Sustainable Best Practices.

impact in areas of housing, food security, sustainability, and nonprofit capacity-building.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Program Support:
o Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of activities for key
programs, including Housing NOW, Nonprofit Support Program, Food Resilience
Alliance, Sustainable Tourism, and Sustainable Best Practices.
o Coordinate logistics for program events, including workshops, webinars, and
community outreach efforts.
o Help prepare and organize materials for program participants, partners, and
stakeholders.
o Track progress, outcomes, and deadlines for each program and provide
administrative support to program managers.
2. Community Outreach & Engagement:
o Assist in outreach efforts to engage program participants, volunteers, and local
partners for all programs.
o Help build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, such as community
members, local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government entities.
o Provide general information and support to the public regarding program services
and opportunities.
3. Program Data Collection & Reporting:
o Collect, organize, and analyze data related to program activities and outcomes,
ensuring accuracy and consistency.
o Support the preparation of reports for internal and external stakeholders, including
funders, board members, and partners.
o Assist in tracking program metrics, successes, and areas for improvement.
4. Sustainability & Best Practices Support:
o Assist in promoting the principles of sustainable tourism and sustainable practices
within the community and local businesses.
o Help track and support the implementation of sustainability strategies for the
Sustainable Tourism and Sustainable Best Practices programs.
o Conduct research and compile resources related to best practices in sustainability,
food resilience, and housing solutions.
5. Administrative Support:
o Provide general administrative assistance to program managers and team
members, including scheduling meetings, coordinating communications, and
preparing reports.
o Help maintain accurate program records, files, and documentation.
o Support the organization in any special projects or tasks as needed.
6. Program Development & Special Projects:
o Assist with the development and launch of new program initiatives.
o Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute ideas for program growth and
improvement.
o Support special projects related to nonprofit capacity-building, food resilience,
sustainable tourism, and housing advocacy.
Programs Overview:
• Housing NOW: A key initiative focused on addressing housing insecurity and providing
immediate solutions to those experiencing homelessness or at risk of housing loss.
• Nonprofit Support Program: Provides capacity-building resources and support to local
nonprofits to strengthen their operations, increase their impact, and sustain their missions.
• Food Resilience Alliance: A collaboration aimed at improving local food security by
strengthening community-based food systems and advocating for sustainable agriculture
practices.
• Sustainable Tourism: Promotes eco-friendly tourism practices that minimize
environmental impact while supporting local economies and fostering a deeper
connection between visitors and the community.
• Sustainable Best Practices: Encourages individuals, businesses and organizations to
adopt sustainable, environmentally responsible practices across sectors.
Qualifications:
• Education: Currently enrolled in high school or college or a recent graduate of a college
or university program (preferably in social work, environmental studies, nonprofit
management, urban planning, public policy, or a related field but not required).
• Skills & Abilities:
o Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
o Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic data
management software.
o Interest in housing, sustainability, food security, and community development.

o Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with diverse populations and
stakeholders.

This position is partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs 2025. Eligible participants must be:
- between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
International students are not eligible.
Rate of pay is $21 per hour.
