Tasks and Responsibilities:
The Southern Gulf Islands Neighborhood House (SGINH) is seeking an enthusiastic and driven
Volunteer Coordinator to support the development and sustainability of our volunteer program.
The Volunteer Coordinator will engage community members, raise awareness of SGINH
programs, and foster a culture of volunteerism and community engagement. This role involves
implementing systems and processes for the recruitment and retention of volunteers while
supporting the organization’s capacity to address community needs through active participation.
The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for the following deliverables:
● Volunteer Program Development: Research and develop the Volunteer Program and a
Volunteer Involvement Framework, including implementing recruitment and retention
plans.
● Marketing and Outreach: Create marketing materials to attract a diverse range of
volunteers and develop community outreach strategies in collaboration with staff and
current volunteers.
● Volunteer Recruitment and Onboarding: Use tools like the Better Impact database to
create volunteer records and time-tracking systems. Recruit and onboard new
volunteers to ensure they are well-supported and matched to appropriate roles.
● Community Engagement: Lead community engagement activities with program staff,
capture stories, and document emergent learning. Host barrier-free learning
opportunities across all four islands to raise awareness of SGINH programs and
encourage volunteerism.
● Program Innovation: Develop micro-volunteering initiatives and virtual volunteer
programs to be rolled out alongside community engagement activities.
● Volunteer Support and Communication: Regularly communicate with volunteers to
ensure placements are aligned with their skills and goals. Provide ongoing support and
guidance to volunteers to enhance their experience.
● Data Management: Maintain files, records, applications, and other data related to the
volunteer program.
● Guidelines and Procedures: Draft, maintain, and share best practices, guidelines, and
procedures for the volunteer program.
● Volunteer Recognition: Coordinate recognition and appreciation events and activities to
celebrate volunteer contributions.
● Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as required to support the volunteer program and
organizational goals.
Preferred Skills:
● Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher.
● Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
● Familiarity with Zoom, Constant Contact, and other online tools.
● Experience with volunteer coordination or program leadership.
● Knowledge of the Better Impact database is a bonus.
● Creative and resourceful, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

This position is partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs 2025. Eligible participants must be:
- between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
International students are not eligible.
Rate of pay is $22 per hour.
