Market Garden Worker 2 (May – September)
Up to 35 hours/week, Tuesday to Friday
This position is partially subsidized by the Canada Summer Jobs Program, and is open to applicants aged 15-30 years with a high school education. Raven Rock Farm is committed to offering a safe, inclusive and healthy work environment free from harassment and discrimination.
The job includes:
Working in the field, orchard, hoop house or greenhouse, including but not limited to: soil preparation, bed shaping, seeding, potting-up, transplanting, pruning, trellising, weeding, cultivating.
Harvesting, rinsing, sorting, packing of crops.
Examining produce & plant orders for quality/accuracy and preparing/loading for market.
Monitoring soil moisture and irrigating as per crop requirements.
Using organic fertilizers, IPM, and observing/reporting crop health.
Operating farm machinery & equipment in a safe manner.
Cleaning and maintenance of barn, facilities, tools and harvest equipment.
Maintaining a tidy, safe and respectful workplace.
Compliance with FoodSafe and Good Agricultural Principles (GAP)
Completing other duties that may arise.
Punctuality and reliability are essential.
Our ideal farm assistant is passionate about growing food, and is a hard worker. You can work in various environments (wet springs and hot summers), for long hours with repetitive tasks (weeding, digging), and with attention to detail (harvesting, thinning), while maintaining an efficient pace. You are able to handle hard physical work, and work well individually or as part of a team. You can work under direction and independently, prioritize tasks, and work well under deadline pressure. You are organized and a quick learner. You are eager to explore and experiment with solving small-scale farming challenges, such as weeding pressure, pest management and productivity. You are willing to pitch in when things get busy.
