Program Assistant – Mayne Island

Tasks and Responsibilities:
The Southern Gulf Islands Neighborhood House (SGINH) is seeking a dedicated and detailoriented
Program Assistant. This position is essential for ensuring the smooth operation of
Mayne Island initiatives and programs, supporting Mayne Island’s vibrant community.
This position is based on Mayne Island, with some flexibility in work hours, including occasional
evenings and weekends. Candidates must be familiar with the Southern Gulf Islands and the

Key Responsibilities:
● Administrative Support: Assist with day-to-day tasks, including scheduling meetings,
managing correspondence, and preparing reports.
● Program Coordination: Provide administrative and logistical support for programs,
events, and initiatives.
● Documentation: Maintain and organize records, including meeting minutes, program
documents, and financial reports.
● Grant Support: Assist with research, writing, and submission of grant applications to
secure funding for programs.
● Community Engagement: Coordinate outreach efforts to inform and engage the Mayne
Island community in programs and activities.
● Volunteer Support: Assist with recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteers
● Data Management: Collect and analyze data to evaluate program effectiveness and
support strategic planning.
● Event Planning: Provide logistical support for workshops, events, and community
meetings.
● Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as required to support the goals of Mayne Island
programs.
Requirements and Skills:
● Familiarity with Mayne Island and the Southern Gulf Islands.
● Excellent organizational and time-management skills with an eye for detail.
● Strong written and oral communication skills, including report writing and presentation
abilities.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other office software.
● Experience with online tools such as Zoom, Constant Contact, and database
management systems is an asset.
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
● Creative thinker with problem-solving skills.
● Experience in program or event coordination is an advantage.
● Comfortable working with diverse community members and stakeholders.
● Open to learning and receiving feedback to adapt to new challenges.

This position is partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs 2025. Eligible participants must be:
- between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
International students are not eligible.
Rate of pay is $22 per hour.
