Custodial staff play an important role in infection control and are responsible for keeping the Pender Island Health Centre tidy, clean, and free of dirt, dust, and pathogens harmful to the staff and public. They are also often the first to become aware of issues affecting the building.
Custodian work will be performed outside of business hours (after 5 pm and before 8:30 am) daily Monday through Friday, and on a limited basis over the weekend. This may be a shared position between two parties, with on-call casual support. Custodian staff work together to ensure shifts are covered for holiday and sick time.

WAGES: $30.00 per hour, plus payroll benefits including vacaton pay, sick pay, CPP and EI
HOURS: PART-TIME EMPLOYEE, 3 to 4 hours per shift, two days per week, Thursday & Friday
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Successful Criminal Record check (will be arranged for the successful candidate).
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions.
• Familiar with Workplace Hazardous materials Information System (WHMIS) and follow Occupational Health and Safety regulations (orientation provided).
• Previous training and/or experience in janitorial procedures would be an asset but must be willing to learn appropriate cleaning techniques for a health centre setting.
• Possess mechanical aptitude to operate light janitorial equipment
• Ability to work well with medical providers, tenants, staff and the public.
• Ability to complete physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, holding, reaching, bending and carrying.
• Work is primarily indoors but will require accessing outdoor facilities.
• Willing to work alone but may work with peers when major tasks are encountered.
• Willingness to obtain WorkSafe BC – Level I First Aid if requested.
