Information Assistant – Saturna Island

Duration: Seasonal (Summer – Between May and end of August)
Reports To: Executive Director
Hours: Full-time (30 hours/week), weekends and holidays maybe required
Overview:
Saturna Island is a vibrant community that attracts both visitors and residents seeking a peaceful
yet active summer experience. We are looking for an enthusiastic and organized Information
Assistant to promote the island’s events, activities, and natural attractions. This role is ideal for
someone passionate about the island, enjoys interacting with people, and is committed to
delivering excellent customer service. The Information Assistant will work at key island
locations to help inform and engage visitors, provide up-to-date information about events, and
foster a welcoming environment for all.
Key Responsibilities:
• Promote Island Events & Activities:
o Actively promote and share information about Saturna Island’s summer events
(festivals, markets, concerts, outdoor activities, and community gatherings) to
visitors and residents.
o Distribute event flyers, brochures, and other promotional materials at key
locations across the island.
o Coordinate with local event organizers to ensure accurate and timely information
is available to the public.
• Visitor Assistance:
o Provide visitors with up-to-date information on island attractions, activities, and
accommodations.
o Offer personalized recommendations based on visitors’ interests (e.g., hiking,
kayaking, art galleries, local shops).
o Assist with travel inquiries, directions, and island logistics, ensuring a positive
visitor experience.
• Community Engagement:
o Foster relationships with local businesses, event organizers, and residents to
gather information about upcoming events and activities.
o Share local news, events, and island updates through social media channels and
community platforms (when appropriate).
o Participate in island events as a representative of the community, helping to create
a welcoming atmosphere.
o Assist with occasional special projects or outreach initiatives as needed.
Qualifications:
• Education & Experience:
o Currently enrolled in high school or has a high school diploma or equivalent
(post-secondary studies in tourism, hospitality, or a related field is an asset).
o Previous customer service, tourism, experience is preferred but not required.
• Skills & Abilities:
o Strong verbal communication skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
o Ability to engage with a diverse group of people and adapt to different situations.
o Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to manage multiple tasks in a
fast-paced environment.
o Comfortable with technology, including social media platforms, office software
(Word, Excel), and basic digital tools for event promotion.
o Knowledge of Saturna Island’s history, geography, events, and activities is an
asset (or a willingness to quickly learn).

o Passionate about promoting the island and enhancing visitors’ experiences.
o Positive, energetic, and proactive in assisting others.
o Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
o Flexible and adaptable to changing conditions, including busy holiday weekends.
Working Conditions:
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift promotional materials as needed.

This position is partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs 2025. Eligible participants must be:
- between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
International students are not eligible.
Rate of pay is $19 per hour.
